Acorns in Eldwick Private Day Nursery was established in January 2011 and is located in a modern purpose built, two storey setting in the heart of the village of Eldwick. The location makes it central and convenient for parents in the village and surrounding area. The Nursery is located in a modern complex with also includes a NHS Health Centre, Chemist and Dental practice. The Nursery is in close proximity to the local Primary school which is the feeder school for our children.

The nursery is open from 7.30 to 18.00, Monday to Friday for 51 weeks of the year and is closed for statutory bank holidays and for one week at Christmas. The nursery has capacity for 103 full time equivalent (FTE) children at any one time and offers both full and part time places.

Acorns in Eldwick is part of the Acorns Group which consists of Acorns in Harrogate (established in 2017), Acorns ‘Out of School’ and ‘Holiday Club’ (Established in 2016) and Acorns in Eldwick.

The nursery works closely with our local primary school situated within walking distance of the nursery. We have a shared care arrangement with Eldwick Primary, whereby children that attend both settings on a given day, are dropped off and picked up each lunchtime by a walking bus supplied by the school.

The Nursery has 4 substantial rooms as follows:

    •  The Baby Room for children aged from 6 months to 17/18 months
    •  The Toddler Room for children aged 17/18 months to 27 months
    •  The Tweeny Room: For children aged 27 months to 3 years
    •  The Pre-School Room: For children aged 3 years to 5 years

The whole of the nursery has been totally refurbished to a high standard, with new flooring, decoration and resources. In addition, we have expanded the pre-school to meet the demand for 30 hours and built a state of the art commercial kitchen to meet the increasing number of dining covers each day.

The setting has been designed and developed around the needs of our children. It is arranged over two floors, with the younger children being housed on the lower level and the older children on the first floor. The two rooms on the lower floor have direct access to our outdoor play area where we endeavour to create a free-flow environment bringing both the outdoors and indoors together. There is a wide staircase as well as a lift to allow for disabled access, as well as a ramp to the front door of the building.

The nursery has enhanced the outdoor play areas to ensure that the children have a range of activities that promote learning with a focus on children’s physical development.

To ensure the safeguarding of our children and staff, we have installed CCTV cameras, for internal use only and there is an intercom system that provides communication throughout the nursery, from each room to the office, and vice versa.

We have installed under floor heating throughout the building in consideration of energy and health and safety. Access to the main building is controlled by a Bio metric security entry system, whereby Parents are identified by fingerprint recognition and only authorised visitors can access the Nursery. All other visitors must be signed in by a member of staff. In addition our reception is covered by a member of staff from 7.30 am to 6pm daily.

Each classroom is completely self-contained with its own bathroom facilities. In addition, the baby room also has its own kitchen.
