About Us

Out Of School (Eldwick)

Acorns Out of School Club opened in July 2016. We provide out of school care for children up to age 11 years at St Wilfrid’s Community Centre, Gilstead.

We are registered with Ofsted (Reg number EY557936) to provide an after school and holiday club. We are open before school from 7.30 and after school until 6pm Monday to Friday. The ‘Out of School’ places are for children attending Eldwick Primary School and we drop off and collect children from school, providing a walking bus to and from the venue.

The holiday club is open to all children during the school holidays and is open from 7:30 to 18:00, Monday to Friday (excluding a week in Christmas).

We also run a holiday club which will be open to ALL children aged 4-11 in the local area regardless of the school they attend. Our holiday club runs every day of the school holidays, except from Christmas Eve until after the New Year. We also open on training days. Please contact us to find out more.

The Club aims to provide high quality, affordable, reliable and accessible childcare to parents and carer’s, especially those who are working or training. Our dedicated and friendly staff always endeavor to meet all our children’s individual needs, to support their educational and social development, through a wide range of activities.

Our indoor provision offers a variety of indoor play, each of which is specifically designed for a child’s needs. These include:

      •   Messy Play: Games/Activities/Crafts that appeal to a child’s creative and sensory development.
      •   Small World: The use of toys and miniature furniture to role play situations in adult life (for example, a kid’s café.
      •   Active: We have an array of indoor activities for physical development, such as a child’s pool table, table football, and space for indoor football after  tea.
      •   We run specialist clubs, such as Cricket, Football, Rugby, Baking, Lego and others suggested by the children themselves.
      •   ICT: We offer an array of devices to children, such as DVD players, tablets, a projector with access to Kid’s Netflix, and a Nintendo Wii. Time on tablets is limited to 10 minutes per session, however play on the Wii is encouraged, due to its physical/sensory benefits.

Because our Out of School is situated just opposite Gilstead Recreational Park, we can take children to the park, or play sports on the field daily (dependent on weather). We provide footballs, rackets, cricket bats and softballs, as well as frisbees and markers for improvised play.

Our children at the Out of School are well catered for.  At our morning sessions, children are fully catered for with cereal, toast, porridge and fresh fruit.  At our afternoon session, the 2-course main meal is freshly prepared and cooked at our state of the art commercial kitchen, based at the nursery and then transported to the Out of School in readiness for the end of the school day.

This website aims to provide you with all the information you should need about our Out of School Club but if you have any questions or queries that are not answered on the site, please contact us to find out more.
